Such individuals are often referred to as 'crackers' or 'black hat hackers,' while those engaged in ethical and lawful activities are commonly known as 'white hat hackers.'

Additionally, there exists an intermediate category known as 'gray hat hackers,' who operate in a somewhat gray area and may not always adhere to accepted norms or laws.
